Call for Submissions: Words Apart

bjanepr In 1967 Martin Luther King Jr. said "the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice." With the first issue of our magazine, we want to remember the power of the ideas that sparked the Civil Rights movement and also examine how the aims of the movement have fallen to the wayside over the years. We invite you to explore Civil Rights as an "Unfinished Project" and imagine how it can be reignited.

Submission Guidelines

We are accepting unpublished fiction, poetry, essays, investigative journalism, interviews, photography, (photos of) artwork, recordings of slam poetry and short films. Work that doesn't relate to our theme is welcome.

Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but please let us know. We probably won't publish anything with a word count that exceeds 7,500.

Please submit your work to wordsapartmag gmail com with the genre (fiction, poetry, etc.) in the subject line. All documents must be sent in the body of the email or attached as a pdf. If you're submitting a video, host it on Vimeo and send us the link. Our reading period ends December 1st.

Copyright Statement

We reserve first publications rights for all accepted pieces. In other words, you're more than welcome to publish it elsewhere after it appears in our magazine, but not before.
