Request for Proposals: Performing Community (SoMa, SF)

Pinoys and Pinays in SoMa! Please check this out:

Performing Community will be presented in July 2012 at SOMArts Cultural Center as part of the 2011-12 Commons Curatorial Residency program.

The curators of Performing Community invite artists, collaborators and cultural producers to reflect on the concept of community and in particular, how it is embodied in the South of Market (SOMA) neighborhood in San Francisco. Artists are encouraged to submit proposals that reflect the ways in which community ethos can define and encourage a sense of place. We are also interested in work that provokes questions about how we choose to participate in community in our daily lives, and what characteristics are entailed by these engagements.

Proposals in any media will be considered and may include completed works, works in progress, prototypes or ideas for participation that either complement and/or comment upon contemporary notions constitutive of performing community.

Immediate preference will be given to those artists who reflect on communities specific to SOMA and/or propose partnerships with SOMA-based organizations, groups, networks, Selected artists will be awarded an honorarium.

Deadline for proposals is August 15, 2011.

Please submit your proposal, and/or direct any questions/inquiries, to Kara and Laura at Include with your proposal a CV, artist statement, and a link to your website (if you do not have a website, please attach 3-5 images of past work).

*Additionally, both curators are happy to discuss proposal ideas prior to submission.*
